7 Hermetic Principles & Scripture
The seven Hermetic principles provide a framework for understanding the nature of the universe and our place within it.
These principles are not only consistent with Scripture but also enhance our understanding of it.
Mentalism
The principle of Mentalism reminds us that everything in the universe is made of spirit, which is a product of the universal living mind.
1 Corinthians 2:14 states that:
“the natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned.”
There is a spiritual aspect to everything, but not everyone can perceive it.
Correspondence
Correspondence states that there is a relationship between the spiritual and the physical world, and what happens in one realm manifests in the other.
Matthew 6:10 says:
“Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”
Vibration
Vibration refers to the idea that everything in the universe is constantly in motion and has a unique frequency.
In Genesis 1:3–4, it is written,
“And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light. And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness.”
Polarity
Polarity refers to the duality of existence and the balance between opposing forces.
James, chapter 4, verse 8 states,
“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.”
Matthew, chapter 6, verse 24 says,
“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.”
Rhythm
Rhythm recognizes that everything in the universe has a natural cycle and flow.
Ecclesiastes 3:1–8:
“For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted; a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; a time to seek, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; a time to tear, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; a time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace.”
Cause & Effect
Cause and effect is a reminder that every action has a consequence and that we are responsible for our choices.
Galatians 6:7 says:
“Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.”
In other words, the verse is saying that every action we take has a consequence, whether positive or negative. Just as a farmer who plants seeds will eventually reap a harvest, our actions will also yield a result. Therefore, it is important to be mindful of our choices and actions, as they can have lasting effects on our lives and those around us.
Gender
Finally, Gender acknowledges the existence of masculine and feminine energy, which are present in all things.
In Matthew 22:30, Jesus says:
“At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven.”
In Heaven, relationships will not be based on gender or marriage. Instead, people will be like angels, depicted as genderless beings. The Bible teaches that in heaven, our focus will be on worshiping God and enjoying His presence, rather than on earthly relationships or identities.
By understanding these principles, we can gain a deeper appreciation for the interconnectedness of all things and our role in the universe’s grand scheme.
